You might be wondering how a little girl from England , living in Canada, marries her handsome Texan in Provo, Utah and is photographed by me, a Boise wedding photographer. I used to live in Canada and met Isobel's family shortly after they moved to our area from England. In fact, she and her sisters and mom came on a road trip with me and my daughters, and volunteered to be models at a photography workshop I was attending with Nichole V in Bannock State Park, in Montana. Isobel was about 12 at the time and seemed pretty quiet to me.
Now, years later, Garret was serving a 2 year religious mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Taber, Alberta and on his last night, happened to be having dinner in the Morgan home, unbeknownst to Isobel. The story has it that she came running up from the basement, hair all a mess and wearing sweatpants , let out a loud belch and then realized that there were two young men in suits there for dinner. Well, someone was impressed with someone because later that month on Facebook the two were in touch. They decided they liked each other enough to be dating and going to school in Utah, and eventually enough to get engaged!. Utah seemed like the perfect meeting place since people would be coming from Canada, England, and Texas to celebrate with them.
Once she was engaged and looking for a photographer, she and her mom reached out to me in Boise and asked if I did destination weddings or would be willing to come to Utah. Of course I would , just like I do weddings in Canada and elsewhere, so we made arrangements to do their engagement session out at the Bonneville Salt Flats near Salt Lake City. It was there that I realized that Isobel and Garrett were going to be one of my most fun weddings this year. They were both happy and smiley and so fun to work with that work really didn't seem like work at all. I couldn't wait for the wedding.
A lot of brides wear a simpler dress inside the temple for their private ceremony, so Isobel decided to do a version of a "first look" with Garrett where he could see her in her exquisite dress by Totally Modest. In keeping tradition with her two married sisters, Isobel had them escort her to surprise Garrett. He was speechless (for a second or two ). She really did make a stunning bride. My favorite shot though is the real life one where, because it's warm in Utah in August, is her downing a coke that someone was gracious enough to hand her!
Isobel and Garrett allowed some time for more formal portraits before their ring ceremony at The Brick Canvas, the same venue as their reception with their family and close friends. The gardens surrounding the venue, located at Thanksgiving Point, in Lehi, Utah gave opportunity for a few different looks which was great! We didn't have to walk far to grab some shots and their videographer was able to capture some great footage all in the same area. How cute is this couple though, they just kept smiling and laughing , them smiling and laughing. Seriously, we could have kept shooting for hours.
Well, one thing for sure, is this family knows how to have fun! From stories the dad WAS NOT allowed to share, to a sister with a beautiful singing voice, to some crazy fan ritual for their favorite football (not SOCCER!) team from England, it was laughs then tears then laughs again. It was so sweet when Isobel went to throw her bouquet, she just turned around and presented it to her cousin Abigail!
